Tony Maserati

Tony Maserati is a legendary American mixing engineer and producer, widely regarded for shaping the distinctive New York hip-hop and R&B sound. His journey in the music industry began at Sigma Sound Studios in New York, where he honed his craft and developed his signature style. Maserati’s rise to prominence came after going independent in 1989, marking the beginning of a prolific career that would span multiple decades.
Maserati originally studied composition at Berklee School of Music in the early 1980s but switched his major to Music Production and Engineering when the program was first introduced in 1983. His time at Berklee solidified his technical knowledge and passion for the recording process, setting the stage for his future success.
Over the course of his career, Maserati has been nominated for 10 Grammy Awards and won one for his work on Sérgio Mendes's "Timeless" in 2006. His contributions to music have helped generate over $100 million in sales, with a remarkable roster of clients that includes Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Usher, Mariah Carey, Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys, T-Pain, and John Legend, among many others.
Maserati initially gained fame for his work with analog gear, but over time, he embraced a hybrid analog-digital approach, combining the warmth and character of analog with the precision of modern digital tools. This versatility has made him one of the most in-demand engineers in the industry. His unique sound was so influential that Waves Audio developed the “Tony Maserati Collection” of processing plugins, allowing producers and engineers to emulate his signature style.
